vespachica: (Ewan Me? A Geek?)
I was finally able to get to the bakery here in Seattle (Honore Artisan Bakery) that has macarons. Their hours are totally not compatible with my own so I snuck in there before Sophia's appointment. I've eaten two already. *sheepish grin* The purple one must have been lavender! The pink one was probably strawberry and it was really good. The lavender one was weird (but I don't like that flavor anyway). Maybe Bill will like it.

More after the jump. )

My mom's chile verde. I blogged about it on Mary Cooks.

It tasted just like the chile verde of my childhood, which is to say it tasted yummy!

Our Dinner

Our Sunday dinner turned out great! Come visit my blog for more information.

The wine with dinner tonight was Willow Crest's 2006 Pinot Gris. It's a decent enough wine and best paired with food. It went with the pork very well. For about $12 you could definitely do much worse. I only had about a glass and a half, since I didn't want to overdo it! ^_^

Bill's coworkers brought their sweet puppy pug, Edward, over when they visited. Everyone loved Edward! Sophia most of all, I think. :)

No bath tonight. I'm wiped out.

As per tradition, tonight I made the Famous Senate Restaurant Bean Soup using the ham bone left over from the Christmas ham. It is delicious and, honestly, the best ham and bean soup I have ever tried.

Here is the recipe:

The Famous Senate Restaurant Bean Soup Recipe

2 pounds dried navy beans
four quarts hot water
1 1/2 pounds smoked ham hocks
1 onion, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
salt and pepper to taste

Wash the navy beans and run hot water through them until they are slightly whitened. Place beans into pot with hot water. Add ham hocks and simmer approximately three hours in a covered pot, stirring occasionally. Remove ham hocks and set aside to cool. Dice meat and return to soup. Lightly brown the onion in butter. Add to soup. Before serving, bring to a boil and season with salt and pepper.

Serves 8. (Actually, it serves way more than 8. At least 10, if not 12.)

Here are some snow pics:

And here is my Project 365 photo for the day. The best thing about this camera is how my dog looks. Seriously. The kids look great and all with the camera but I have never gotten a better photo of my dog before I got this camera. <3

Project 365 brought to you by the charter bus industry!

Here's an accident I saw on my way home. It was pretty damned cool, actually. And pretty lucky that those buses did not come crashing down on the interstate.

Here's a photo from the news:

They're charter buses. Here's the article.

Stupid bus drivers. I hope they lose their licenses.

This is the gift I brought to the cookie party for the gift exchange. Every year around Christmas time I get an awesome present from Maker's Mark. This year it was wrapping paper, ribbon, and tags. Sweet, right? So I bought a mini bottle of the whisky from the liquor store to tie onto the package. Inside the package was a snowman hand towel and lotion/shower gel set in some seasonal scent. The gift went over pretty well, which is good. I'm surprised, given how boozy our group is, that it didn't get picked as one of the first gifts, though. No matter. It was still cool.

I'm consolidating my dinner photo and my Project 365 photo tonight due to its meaning: food plus new step in the direction of better health.

Two boneless, skinless chicken thighs that were marinated in Mr. Yoshida's sauce, 5 Ling Ling potstickers, and a load of stir fry veggies.

In related news, I entered in all of my food into SparkPeople. I nailed my goal for calories, calcium, and fiber. I didn't do any walking but one step (haha) at a time, right?

The problem is, even though I've eaten well I am still hungry! I think it must be psychosomatic because I've had about 1800 calories thus far today. In fact, it must be in my head because I ate that whole plate full of dinner and I could probably eat another plateful. WTF?

Today I got three poinsettias from a charity (through work) called Young Life. I got two pinks and one red. They're gorgeous!

First, the casualty:

Here's my sore. It's looking worse today but it still doesn't hurt. I guess it's all right? Maybe burns look worse before they get better? I don't know what I should be doing with it. I haven't been doing anything to it. It's not weeping. I've left it uncovered. I haven't put any ointment on it whatsoever. Hmmm. I guess I'll always remember that coconut cream pie and not just for how great it tasted!

Second, check out my turkey stock!

I didn't skim ALL of the fat off. It smelled really good (I didn't taste it). Those are 13 bags with 8 ladles full of stock. I need to measure that to see how much they are. Plus, a bigger container (got bored with the baggies, honestly!) and a 1/2 cup container.

So, good times. I'll use these for my Project 365 photos. I don't know which one it'd be though as they're both relevant!

I need a pedicure.

Hello, ugly feet!

On my way home, in downtown Seattle. I am listening to NPR on the radio.

In other news, my dog is farting some nasty ass farts.

[livejournal.com profile] stemware will recognize this as the main branch of the Seattle Public Library. I pass it every day on my way home from work. I haven't been back to it since we went a long time ago, though.

A young Robert De Niro on my computer screen... This came about because I had a strange dream this morning that woke me up. At one point in my dream I was sitting at a table by a window. I looked out and Robert De Niro was looking in at me. He had a full beard and big brown eyes. He was gorgeous and I remember being completely trapped by those eyes for a few seconds.

Tonight I picked Sophia up from daycare with her dollhouse in the car. She didn't see it (haha - it's behind her) and I'm thinking of giving it to her from Santa for Xmas. My friend gave it to me. It's really fancy but unfinished. I'm debating on if I should finish it or if I should give it to her as is so we can work on it together. Truth be told, she is a little too young for it. Anyway, we'll see.

-------

Last night I told Bill I wanted to paint one wall in the dining room burgundy. He laughed at me. He asked, "What's wrong with the wall?" I said nothing is wrong with the wall but I want to paint one wall darker than the rest. He doesn't understand. I don't know if I understand but I still want to do it.

-------

I'm making an interesting chicken soup for dinner tonight. I hope it's going to taste good. Pretty much it has a bunch of leftovers in it.

Speaking of drinking, I snapped this photo whilst browsing a magazine in the doctor's office this morning. Bill and I were waiting to get our blood drawn. I snapped the photo because it looks like a good drink to make!

In case it doesn't come out, here is the recipe:

Quaalude
1 oz. vodka
1 oz. hazelnut liqueur
1 oz. coffee liqueur
1 splash of milk

Pour ingredients into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Stir. Consume.
